The British Railway Union Threatened to Go on Strike until Christmas

Sep 01, 2025

Starting from Monday evening this week, the railway union will cancel the service. Starting from tomorrow, the most severe shutdown strike in 30 years will officially begin.

Millions of British commuters have been urged to stay at home or use other means of transportation. It is expected to cause severe traffic chaos in the UK within the next six days. Not only that, the trade union also threatened to extend the strike until Christmas.

Finance Minister Clark told reporters that unions like RMT would make things even worse, causing turmoil, damaging the economy and raising unrealistic expectations. In fact, it is not unsustainable. If these expectations are fulfilled, it will exacerbate inflation. This week's railway strike has also directly affected students taking GCSE and A-level exams, and caused inconvenience to those going to concerts or watching sports events this week. The government is currently working intensively with trade unions to try to avoid a strike, but insiders say that no solution is possible. Compared with last week, the traffic congestion in London this morning increased by 11%, causing a total of 350 traffic jams with a total length of over 180 miles. Worse still, the lawyers' union voted to stage a consecutive strike today on legal aid issues. They will strike for two days next week and suspend accepting new cases. More than 450,000 teachers said they would go on strike if they were not given a salary increase of up to 12%. There are also NHS staff, postmen and public sector workers. A total of 1.5 million people will vote on the strike action this autumn.
